Who is St. Susanna Parish School? Founded in 1948, St. Susanna is accredited by the Ohio Catholic Schools Accrediting Association and is also charted by the State of Ohio. Current enrollment at St. Susanna School for Grades 1-8 is 580.
What are the school hours? Classes begin at 8:15 AM and end at 3:00 PM.
What is the average class size? Grades 1 -3 –maximum 26 students Grades 4 – 8 – maximum 28 students
Is full or half day Kindergarten offered? Currently, St. Susanna is configured for grades 1 -8. We are in the process of expanding our building and hope to add kindergarten in the future. Check the parish web pages for up dates on the “Looking forward to the Day” Campaign.
When is First Grade Registration? Registration for incoming first graders is February 26th from 6-8PM. It will be in the area outside of the kitchen. Details will be in the parish bulletin. Admission Policy is on the school web page. Current students will re-register by the end of March, and then openings will be offered to new students.
What if I want to register a new 2nd – 8th Grade Student? Current students will re-register by the end of March, and then openings will be offered to new students. You may complete a registration form at any time for Grades 2 – 8. You will be notified when an opening occurs.
When will I find out if my son(s)/daughter(s) is/are accepted? Acceptance letters for the 2007-2008 school year for first graders are sent in March after the registration process. New students in other grades are notified as soon as there is an opening
Do you offer a Waiting List? Depending on the requested grade we may or may not have a waiting list. Students are put on a waiting list only if they are registered parishioners. For current enrollment information please call the school office at 398-3821 ext. 3108.
What is the tuition? Tuition for the 2007-2008 school year is $2585 for active members of the parish. There is a discount for more than one student in the family.
Is there a registration fee? There is a $120 registration fee per child that is applied to tuition. The registration fee in non-refundable if you decide to attend another school. It is refundable if we are unable to accept your child due to space limitations.
How often is tuition due? Tuition can be paid in full, monthly, or quarterly.
What is the curriculum at St. Susanna? St. Susanna follows the Graded Course of Study developed by the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. This curriculum is approved by the State of Ohio.
How are the students tested at St. Susanna? Students are given the Terra Nova Achievement Test and the InView Test of Ability in Grades 2, 4, 6, and 8. This is a norm-referenced test and the data is used to compare our students locally and nationally. These tests also determine the need for services for our gifted and special needs learners. Students in Grades 5 and 8 are also given the ACRE test for religion. Our teachers employ various means of assessment for evaluating the curriculum in the classroom. Writing Samples are also assessed in grades 3, 5 and 7.
How are incoming first graders tested? Since all of our first graders have completed an accredited kindergarten program we do not have to test them for acceptance into first grade. However, we do have a screening day so we can get to know your child and be better prepared to meet his/her needs.
What services are available for the struggling student? St. Susanna has the services of a full-time and a part time support educator, a part-time speech and language therapist, a part-time occupational therapist, and a full-time school psychologist. We also have adult volunteers who work with the students. Teachers also work with students and parents to best meet the instructional needs of struggling students within the regular classroom environment.
What programs are available for the gifted student? Most of our students are very bright students. There are services within the classroom with enrichment activities developed for their needs. A separate Enrichment program, available for students in Grades 1-3 was developed by our gifted educator. Our gifted educator works with classroom teachers to provide challenging activities for the bright student. After the fourth grade Terra Nova testing, our students are re-evaluated. If students continue to qualify with the necessary test scores and classroom performance, they are invited to participate in the gifted program. They meet with the gifted teacher for 90 minutes per week in addition to their regular classroom work. At the end of the sixth grade, our students are tested in math for participation in an accelerated math program for the junior high years.
Does St. Susanna offer a foreign language program? In Junior High our students study Spanish once a week. Spanish is offered as an after school program for Grades 1 – 6 for a fee.
Are there clubs after school? We have a Power of the Pen Team, Tech Team, Press Club, Math Club, Rosary Club, Scouts, Yearbook and Children’s Choir. These are all teacher and/or parent run and are subject to change from year to year.
Is busing available for students? Mason, Lakota, Lebanon and Kings School Districts are currently busing our students to and from school.
Do you offer a supervised after school program? At present we do not have a latch key program. We do have numerous activities available during part of the year. We offer a Mad Science program, Young Rembrandts, and Spanish. These are offered for a fee.
How often are students engaged in prayer and faith development? At St. Susanna, our students are engaged in prayer and faith development daily. We begin our morning with the prayer, The Pledge of Allegiance, and our Peace Builders pledge. Students pray each day before meals. Daily religion classes allow students to participate in prayer services and religious education. Each Wednesday, our student body attends mass. Students actively participate as lectors, servers, cantors, and extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist. Furthermore, our students live the Gospel and serve Christ through a variety of Christian service and outreach activities.
Do you accept non-Catholics to St. Susanna? Yes, non-Catholics are accepted into the St. Susanna community if there are openings after all other priorities are served. However, they participate in prayer and faith development which occurs daily within our community.
Do students wear uniforms? St. Susanna students are expected to adhere to a dress code. It consists of navy shorts, slacks or skorts with either white or red polo shirts. A list of approved vendors and specifics is available in the student handbook.
Is there a hot lunch program? There is a self-funded hot lunch program available for students. An entrée can be purchases for $1.50 with sides available for $.50. Milk and juice is available plus a snack table. This program will be expanded when the current building/remodeling program is complete in 2009.
Are there opportunities for team sports at St. Susanna? All sports are sponsored and run by the boosters organization and are offered to all parish youth. Check out the links on the parish web page for “Booster” information.
Are there opportunities available for parents to volunteer at St. Susanna? Definitely!! We welcome parent’s help in the various classrooms. This will vary by grade level and by teacher. All parents must attend a Child Protection Seminar offered by the parish staff and be fingerprinted in compliance with Archdiocesan policy.
